A Letter From the Owners

Counterfeit Cigars

Friends,

We want to share an important message with you. Unfortunately, counterfeit cigars are being sold that closely mimic our bands, boxes, and even our name. We believe in being honest with you, so we want you to know clearly that these are not our cigars.

Every Montenegro Selección Privada cigar is carefully handcrafted from premium tobacco that we personally select, age, and finish to a standard we hold to the highest quality, one we never compromise on. Counterfeit versions only mimic the packaging and miss the essence of what truly matters. Details like where it was rolled, the type of leaf used, and the conditions it was created in remain genuine secrets that only we keep.

We're doing our best to explore all available channels to see this through, and we're here for you every step of the way. In the meantime, the tips below are designed to help you shop with confidence. And if you ever spot a fake, please let us know, and your reports are invaluable in helping us safeguard the quality of the cigars you trust and enjoy.

With gratitude,

The Montenegro Family

Signs to be wary of

A counterfeiter can copy a band and a box. What they cannot copy is where a cigar truly comes from.

A price too good to be true

A genuine premium cigar carries a genuine price. A steep discount is the oldest signal of a fake, and the easiest one to spot.

A seller who cannot say where they came from

An honest retailer knows their source. Vagueness about which distributor or channel supplied the cigars is a warning in itself.

Sold in the shadows

Street tables, anonymous marketplaces, and social media direct messages are where counterfeits move. Be wary of any seller you could not stand behind.

It simply feels off

Dry, loosely rolled, poorly built, or inconsistent from one cigar to the next. A copied band cannot fake the smoke inside it.

Not certain? Tell us.

Get in touch and we will walk you through what to send. With a few clear photos of the band, the box, and the foot, we can confirm whether your cigar is a genuine Montenegro. And if you have been offered or sold a fake, or approached to carry one, let us know. Every report helps us protect the cigars you trust.
